Sugar Free Dalgona Coffee

I am all about coffee, especially sweet “fancy” coffees. Since we’ve all been staying home and until recently, our Starbucks locations near us were closed, I’ve been missing my fancy coffee treats. I’m sure you’ve been seeing the dalgona coffee craze all over your social media feeds lately, because I definitely have. I was a little skeptical about it to be honest and had heard mixed things about how bitter or strong this kind of drink could be. But, I’m bored in the house, so I finally decided to give it a shot!

Full disclosure…this was my second attempt. The first wasn’t bad as far as taste goes, but it was for sure not this pretty! I tried using my stand mixer the first time, and I’m not sure if it’s just because of the small amount I used or what, but it did not whip up…like at all. This time I used the frother attachment on my ninja coffee bar to whip both the coffee and the whipped cream topping and it worked perfectly! I personally love my coffee bar, so if you’re in the market for a new one, I’d definitely recommend it, but I think a handheld frother or immersion blender should work the same.

The Ninja coffee bar has a little frother arm that swings out when you need it, and folds back in when you don’t. I also love the iced coffee feature and that we can brew a variety of sized cups and pots.

I cannot stand a bitter coffee, so I was so excited when this *sugar free* coffee turned out tasting just as amazing as a drink from Starbucks that’s loaded with sugar! I did use the sugar free Torani syrup for flavor, but I’m going to to be playing with some different options to flavor it because I know many don’t like using the syrups.

All of the ingredients I used came from Wal-Mart.

My 5 year old thought it was the most ridiculous thing as he watched me prepare this gorgeous coffee in a pretty glass…and then promptly dump it in a larger cup to allow room for stirring once I had my Instagram photos. The life of a boy mom! LOL So…full disclosure: it looks super pretty piling up over the top like that, but you will need a bigger glass to mix it all together before drinking. If you don’t want any pretty photos of it, just go straight for the bigger glass! But c’mon…you have to admit, it was a little bit worth the extra dish!

Place the coffee, brown sugar, and water in a glass and whip with frother or immersion blender until fluffy (it will stiffen more as it sets, so if it looks a little running, that’s fine). In separate cup (the one you plan to use for the final drink), mix the almond milk, 2 TBSP whipping cream, and vanilla syrup. Scoop the whipped coffee on top. In a small glass, whip the 1/4 cup whipping cream until it reaches a thick consistency. Scoop that on top of your drink and sprinkle with a small amount of the swerve brown sugar replacement.

And voila! There you have a delicious fancy coffee that tastes like a wonderful treat while still being kind to your waistline! If you try this recipe, please let me know how you like it! I am going to be experimenting with other flavorings and with possible alternatives to the Torani syrups soon and will definitely create a follow up post to update you if I manage to create something else that is just as yummy!
